Guiding principles

Dance Limerick promotes, supports and celebrates dance creation, presentation and participation. Dance Limerick is a support and development organisation based in the heart of Limerick city.

Through a combination of performance platforms, residency opportunities, master classes, festivals, talks and lectures, Dance Limerick advocates for artistic dialogue and exchange. In collaboration with dance artists across a range of practices, Dance Limerick promotes the creation of new and innovative work and devises programmes of access, engagement and participation for the wider public.

History

Dance Limerick was founded in 2013. Since the beginning, the organsition has supported dance artists and choreographers, providing performance and residency platforms as well as professional workshops and opportunities.

Since 2013 Dance Limerick has hosted a rich programme of residencies, performances and events including the What Next dance festival and the Light Moves Festival of Screendance.

Building and facilities

Dance Limerick operates out of two beautiful spaces situated in John’s Square.

Dance Limerick’s Studio is bright, light and warm, has a sprung wooden floor and is the location for many of Dance Limerick's classes and workshops as well as home to visiting artists. The offices and studio are located in the Georgian building just across the square from the Dance Limerick Performance Space.

Dance Limerick’s Performance Space (St. John’s Church, John’s Square), informally known as ‘the church’. The unconventional building is a former Church of Ireland, now a dedicated dance space with high ceilings, wall to wall sprung dance floor and lofty arches. The space invites dancers, choreographers and audiences to stretch their imaginations to new heights.
